President Anura Kumara Dissanayake returned to Sri Lanka this morning (01) after successfully completing a three-day official visit to Japan, undertaken at the invitation of the Japanese Government.
The visit, which commenced on September 27, included the President’s participation as Chief Guest at the Sri Lanka Day celebration of the “Expo 2025” exhibition in Osaka.
During his stay, President Dissanayake engaged in a series of high-level bilateral discussions aimed at strengthening the longstanding friendship between Sri Lanka and Japan, while also enhancing trade, investment, and economic cooperation. He held talks with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, Finance Minister Kato Katsunobu, Defense Minister D.M. Nakatani, and other senior officials, including Nippon Foundation Founding Chairman Yohei Sasakawa and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) President Dr. Tanaka Akihiko.
In addition, the President met with Emperor Naruhito at the Imperial Palace, where they held cordial discussions.
President Dissanayake also joined a roundtable discussion with Japanese business leaders and addressed the Japan-Sri Lanka Business Forum at the headquarters of the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), where he highlighted new investment opportunities in Sri Lanka and emphasized the Government’s commitment to maintaining an investor-friendly environment.
A key outcome of the visit was the signing of a Grant Agreement for the “Project for the Enhancement of Productivity in the Dairy Sector,” marking a new milestone in Japan–Sri Lanka development cooperation.
Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath, along with senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, accompanied the President on this official visit.,
